Vehicle Description
1963 Saab 96 Rally Car finished in a Patina'ed White over stripped out race-prepped interior.
This screamin' two-stroke Saab is kitted out for Rally use -- it was used in Texas by it's original builders in at least one Rally America event. The exterior shell is believed to have been left with largely original, patina'ed paintwork. Outside the little rally car is fitted with upgraded main headlights plus three foward-mounted Cibie driving lights and one rear Cibie spot light. A Saab roof rack/basket in a patina finished is mounted to the roof and is equipped with a full size spare whee//tire. Black rally wheels are wrapped with Mickey Thompson Mini-Mag offroad tires.
Inside the stripped down cabin - the driver settles into Recaro seats and faces a black leather wrapped Momo Prototipo steering wheel with Saab branded horn button. Original VDO instrumentation includes a 7k tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and additional gauges for fuel, voltage, and temp. A Terra Trip Rally Trip Computer is equipped along with a Westach triple EGT gauge, a functional Soviet MiG ACS-1 clock/stopwatch, and a switch panel for spark/fuel, lighting, and fans. A roll-cage and fire extinguisher have been fitted along with reinforced suspension and custom skid plates to handle the rigors of rally racing and keep the occupants safe.
"This Saab is powered by a 1967 triple rebuilt / ported as a Stage Three 900cc by Bud Clark of Orange, California with a counterweighted Monte Carlo crank, Wiseco pistons, and a Monte Carlo cylinder head adapted for standard spark plugs. Power is sent to the front wheels through a lightened flywheel and a column-shifted 4-speed manual transmission with a later ribbed case. A 40mm Weber downdraft carburetor is mounted on a custom adapter plate for improved porting, and its accelerator pump is linked to the choke cable for cold starts. Exhaust modifications include a ceramic-coated XP Racing expansion chamber and a cutout for quiet transits. An alternator conversion was mounted with custom and factory brackets, and twin Bosch coils are equipped as well as a Pertronix ignition. A remote electric fan was installed in place of the stock shaft-driven setup. The engine currently runs 116-octane fuel with premixed Redline two-stroke oil from dual fuel tanks, and is said to have less than 100 miles since the build."
