Vehicle Description
Offered for sale is this 1950 Chrysler Town & Country Newport Coupe “Woodie,” chassis number 7412049. This Woodie is finished in Black with an Ivory top over Black/Gray Vinyl and cloth interior. Powered by what is believed to be its original 5.3L (323ci) L-Head Straight 8-Cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed ‘on-the-tree’ manual transmission. Mileage is believed to be all original at 78,538 miles.
For the 1950 year, a hardtop Coupe called the Newport was introduced to join the line which included a convertible and a sedan. This single-year production resulted in about 600-700 cars (depending on the source) and would usher in the last year of Chrysler’s Woodies.
This example lived most recently in a well-kept private collection based in PA. The car was featured on the Winter 2000 copy of ‘Timber Tales’ magazine (the magazine of the Chrysler Woodie Owner’s Club) and won a 2011 national first prize award with the Antique Automobile Club of America.
The sale includes: a bill of sale from 1951, some past service records, a letter confirming a first place prize with the Antique Automobile Club of America, a Winter 2000 copy of ‘Timber Tales’ magazine (the magazine of the Chrysler Woodie Owner’s Club), and a number of related books/manuals/parts catalogs.
Recent service in prep for sale. Please see the gallery for detailed images of the exterior, paint, trim/chrome, interior, engine bay, wood, undercarriage, and more.
